Style, record sales and sustainability – Day of Fashion was resounding success – Mirage News

The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters hosted the highly anticipated one day showcase on 15 October 2022 and, pleasingly, local retailers also recorded a boost in sales.

A Day of Fashion included an industry panel discussion – In Conversation With… Fashion Talk – with the panellists congratulating the Council for highlighting the issue of sustainability.

The discussion was hosted by Stacey Pallaras (Cocktail Revolution) with university researchers and advocates Erin Skinner, Kyla Raby and Josie McKenzie on the panel.

Speaking after the event, anti-slavery researcher and practitioner, Kyla Raby, said: “It was inspiring to see so many people wanting to join a conversation about the sustainability issues that exist within the fashion industry and interested in knowing what they can do in response.”

“Thanks to the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters for including this panel event in the program, inviting us to share our research, and to all those who came along on the day or view the recording afterwards.”

Erin Skinner commended the Council for hosting “such a great day and above all else including sustainability”.

“The street was buzzing with fantastic energy and conversation about what we and brands can do to make for a fairer and more sustainable fashion industry. Sustainability can be stylish and the panel attendees showed this in spades!’

Meanwhile, Senior Sales Consultant Juanita Sentence, from the outdoor adventure store Exurbia, said A Day of Fashion was Exurbia’s most lucrative day of trading since opening on The Parade in November 2021.

“Even with the great weather our regular customers would normally be out doing some type of adventure, hiking in the hills or out climbing,” Juanita said.

“It was nice to meet new customers on the day, who may not have known we are on The Parade but the Garage Sale caught their eye and this can only be accounted for by the foot traffic because of A Day of Fashion on The Parade.”

The clothing Sip & Swap event was also at capacity with fashion lovers bringing six items of clothing in exchange for six other pieces.

National co-ordinator of the clothing exchange. Kirsten Fredericks, said the clothes swap brought a “valuable dimension to A Day of fashion on The Parade”.

“The excitement generated amongst the attendees during the event and the positive feedback afterwards are a testament to sustainable fashion and the City of Norwood Payneham & St Perers ability to provide an event that was both fun and sophisticated.”

The remaining items from Sip & Swap were donated to a variety of Op Shops along The Parade, including Elcies, which is operated by Lutheran Care.

Lutheran Care Op Shops Manager Babs Deane said Elcies on The Parade was thrilled to be a recipient of more than 100 beautiful second-hand clothing pieces.

“We really appreciate the generosity of the community and the Council in receiving these goods. Proceeds from our Op Shops go directly to supporting people experiencing hard times or who have reached crisis point.”

The House of Gucci screening also attracted 70 movie-goers at the one-off screening at Hoyts, Norwood. A Day of Fashion – which was fully funded Norwood Parade Precinct Committee – will return in 2023.
