A stylist who works at a top high-street store has given her expertise online as to what pieces can do this with ease.

Victoria Thewlis, who posts videos on Instagram @victoriathewlis_stylist, posted a body-positive video with some great tips.

First up, the John Lewis employee recommended wearing tiered or buffet style dresses.

She said: “They are perfect because the seam gives you that little bit of waist definition and means it’s not just completely shapeless.

“They also have a nice bit of gathering, which just nicely skims over the tummy area if you are feeling conscious and also, they’re just super comfortable.”

Next up she shared how she approaches skirts if she wants something more flattering.

Victoria said: “Skirts with a slight A-line to them do a really good job of skimming over the tummy.

“If you can find one with a little bit of detail, like this one with a ruffle, it just adds that extra distraction away from the tummy area.”

She advised fashion fans to “always tuck your top in” in order to draw attention to your waist rather than your middle “if you are feeling conscious”.

Finally, Victoria showed off some super smart trousers which she again recommended to help disguise the tummy area.

She said: “Wide leg trousers, much like the skirts and dresses, skim over.

“If you are wanting a more flattering style of trouser, I would say to go with something without the gathering pleats on the front here as it draws that little bit more attention to the tummy.

“Go for something more flat fronted if you don’t want that.”

But she reminded viewers that it’s all about “going what you feel comfortable with” and will make you feel good.

In her caption she included a very positive message for her followers on how they should view the clip.

She told them: “I feel like I say ‘if you’re feeling conscious’ so many times in this but I just want to stress that no one should ever be made to feel conscious of their bodies!!

“However, it is a very real feeling that lots of people experience, including myself, so I wanted to give you the tips that I use IF you’re someone who experiences this too… so we can all get on with our lives and feel great,” she concluded.

Viewers were loving the tips, with one commenting: “Great advice!”
