Wes Anderson is no stranger to a stylish movie premiere. In 2021, when his film The French Dispatch debuted at Cannes, the wildly clashing fashions of its stars Timothée Chalamet, Tilda Swinton, and Bill Murray made headlines. On Tuesday, however, the New York premiere of Asteroid City—the director’s eleventh feature—was more notable for how its starry cast all dressed perfectly in sync with Anderson’s cinematic style.

Over the course of his filmography, Anderson’s signature aesthetic—pastel colors, pleasingly uniform sets, deadpan ennui—has grown so instantly identifiable that it’s even become a TikTok trend. Asteroid City’s bevy of famous fellas (including Tom Hanks, Jason Schwartzman, Adrien Brody, and Jeff Goldblum) seem to have absorbed that aesthetic into their bones, arriving to this week’s screening in menswear so crisp and uniform it deserved its own offbeat Alexandre Desplat score. The evening’s red carpet was a nod to the movie’s small-town Southwest setting, replete with faux cacti and saloon-y decor, which made for a delightfully weird backdrop for all the tranquil tailoring on display.
