Cleveland Cavaliers continue stellar homecourt defense
The Cleveland Cavaliers successfully blasted the Utah Jazz at home with a 122-99 blowout in Donovan Mitchell’s first-ever game against his former team. It was a night when the Cavs dominated after not giving up an inch, never trailing since the opening minutes of the game.
Cleveland never once looked in trouble and began to pull away in the second quarter, erecting a commanding lead that had ballooned to as much as 25 by the fourth period. This was a welcome change after the near-miss against the Dallas Mavericks a few nights ago.
Mitchell’s had 23 points against the team that drafted him, Cedi Osman erupted in the final quarter to add 22 markers, and Jarrett Allen completed a double-double of 20 and 11 to go with three blocked shots.
Not only did Cleveland clamp down with a renewed defensive vigor, but a balanced offensive attack also had Darius Garland, Caris LeVert, Evan Mobley, and Isaac Okoro join the three to make it a total of seven Cavaliers players scoring double-figures in the blowout win.
The Cavs look to extend streak against potential contenders
Former beloved Cleveland players Lauri Markkanen and Jordan Clarkson starred for Utah, scoring 24 and 23, respectively. Although the Cavaliers’ pesky defense made them have to earn those. Meanwhile, former Cavs lottery pick and new Jazz sixth man Collin Sexton was forced to sit out with a hamstring issue.
All three players received a warm welcome from another sold-out Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse crowd before the Cavaliers cruised to their 15th win against two losses in ‘The Land’.
It is worth noting that this impressive home feat is a stark contrast to a pretty pedestrian 6-9 record on the road. Fortunately, there will be three more games in their building throughout the holidays–but given the weight of opponents coming into town, things could go awry very quickly.
The Cleveland Cavaliers will first host a challenging matchup with the Milwaukee Bucks on December 21st, before other tormentors in the Toronto Raptors and the Brooklyn Nets roll into town for the tail end of this homestand.
